The Standard Toboggan is so named because that is designation that Tim White gave to this size of sled. Since these were popular sleds in the 1980’s I had occasion to build lots of repair parts to fix broken ones. After a while I just started assembling whole sleds.
The odd bed measurements for both this sled and the next size larger Tim White sled (called the Long Toboggan) come from Tim’s original specifications. Both these sleds have a longer arc on the front of the runners which gives them a bit of a smoother ride. The downside is if you are carrying long pieces of freight they tend not to lay as flat because of the front arc.
Both these sleds have had decades of use in Alaska and hold up admirably in even the roughest conditions.
